New Contribution to English Studies: IUS Lecturer Damir Kahrić Successfully Defends his PhD

Mr. Damir Kahrić, lecturer in the English Language and Literature (ELIT) and English Language and Literature, Teaching (ELT) study programs at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), has successfully defended his doctoral dissertation - marking a significant scholarly milestone in the field of English studies.

Kahrić completed his PhD at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. His dissertation, titled “(Re)interpretations of William Shakespeare’s Literary Opus in Literature and Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 20th and 21st Century”, offers an interdisciplinary exploration of Shakespeare’s influence and reinterpretation within BiH literature and culture.

The research stands out for its integration of literary analysis, cultural studies, translation theory, and regional historiography, providing new insights into how global literary canons are received and transformed within local contexts.

The dissertation was developed under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demir Alihodžić (University of Tuzla) and co-mentorship of Full Prof. Dr. Sanjin Kodrić (University of Sarajevo). The doctoral defense committee reflected the interdisciplinary scope of the work and included:  Prof. Dr. Almir Bašović (Committee Chair); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demir Alihodžić (mentor); Prof. Dr. Sanjin Kodrić (co-mentor); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selma Veseljević-Jerkić (member); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adijata Ibrisimović-Šabić (member); and Full Prof. Dr. Almedina Čengić (substitute member).
