Book Promotion at IUS: “Türk Edebiyatı İsimler Sözlüğü” by Prof. Dr. Muhittin Şimşek

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, the promotion of a book titled Türk Edebiyatı İsimler Sözlüğü (Dictionary of Turkish Literature Names) was held at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS). The book was prepared by the President of the Board of Directors of Ahmet Yesevi University, Prof. Dr. Muhittin Şimşek. IUS Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım and IUS Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Associate Professor Muhammed Yasir Göz welcomed Prof. Şimşek to the Campus.

The opening speech was held by Prof. Yıldırım who thanked Prof. Şimşek for choosing IUS for the promotion of such a significant book. He also expressed his gratitute for the books donated to the IUS Library, which will benefit not only students but the staff as well.

Prof. Şimşek addressed the audience emphasizing the fact that Ahmet Yesevi University and IUS are sister universities in the same way as Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkiye are sister countries. Moreover, he focused on the importance of the written word in the history of humankind adding that even the first words of the monotheistic Holy Books are related to words and learning.

Türk Edebiyatı İsimler Sözlüğü (The Dictionary of Turkish Literature Names) is a study that deals with the biographies of poets and writers of Turkish literature from the beginning to the present, according to the modern biography understanding. Biography, which is a science as old as humanity, is one of the important indicators of the social and cultural development of societies. The book, which is offered to the whole world in an online format, will be updated periodically in the light of new researches.
